LEGO®️ Bricks Aren't Just For Kids!
LEGO Bricks Were My Connection to My Mom!
I have loved LEGO bricks for as long as I can remember. I never gave my childhood collections away and continued to add to my collection as an adult. I always found a way to use them in teambuilding and tabletop exercises in my leadership and security management classes. My Mom Doris forgot who I was in 2014, yet somewhere in her brain memories remained of the thousands of hours that we spent making LEGO creations together, because whenever I would get the LEGO bricks out Mom's blank stare would disappear, her eyes would light up and she would instantly click the bricks together. I loved the fact that LEGO bricks became my primary connection to my Mom and were an incredible way for us to engage.
Building with the LEGO bricks kept Mom occupied and calm for long periods of time and she always seemed happy playing with them. I began offering LEGO classes for kids and adults since they brought so much happiness to my Mom, so in 2014 I became a trained facilitator in a methodology called LEGO Serious Play which helps organizations communicate and work together more effectively. I also wrote my own courses for kids and adults that taps into their creativity. I created a collection of LEGO fidget toys and puzzles for Mom when she could no longer build the way she used to. In 2018 I began using LEGO Serious Play with caregivers and those with dementia building Joy and Hope and became a trained facilitator for virtual sessions in 2020. In November 2021 we were featured in Season 4 Episode 6 of Robin Robert Thriver Thursday series which focused on our play and connection with LEGO bricks. As the photo on the left shows, Mom loved playing with LEGO bricks all the way up to a few days before her death on January 31, 2022.

LEGO®️ Serious Play®️ for Professional Caregivers! - Available in person and via Zoom
This session is tailored specifically for professional caregivers in assisted living, memory care and adult day staffs as well as activity directors and other health care professionals! It's the perfect way to spend two hours using LEGO bricks to build new strategies for delivering the best possible caregiver experiences for the individuals they care for.
LEGO®️ Serious Play®️ for Family Caregivers! Building Joy / Resilience / Hope / or Superpowers! - Available in person and via Zoom
A perfect way to spend 90-120 minutes and it's fun for all ages! This session is designed to help caregivers relax and enjoy themselves as Loretta leads them through LEGO building fun that will help them build or rebuild lots of JOY, HOPE or Superpowers to conquer caregiving challenges!
Frame Your Journey - Available in person and via Zoom
In this powerful 60-90 minute session participants choose a colorful LEGO®️ baseplate as the "frame" for their LEGO model that represents segments of their caregiver's journey. Participants keep their artwork and can change it over time as their journey changes.
The Unbreakable Caregiver! - Available in person and via Zoom
This stress-reducing and confidence-building session is designed to show family and professional caregivers that even though the challenges of caregiving may bend them in many different directions at times, the challenges will not break them.
Building Brick Memories™️ for those with Dementia and their Care Partners - Available in person and via Zoom
This session is the perfect event for those with dementia and their care partners to build memories together! The 60-90 minute session guides participants through building past events such as favorite holidays and vacations and uncovering memories long forgotten.
Brick Memories™️ Art Sessions using LEGO®️ Bricks! - Available in person
This session provides a perfect way to spend an hour or two and it's fun for all ages! Dream and Build your own art masterpiece! This program has had great success with residents in Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities! .

This interactive and intensive two-day course is tailored to those working in health care, nursing home, assisted living, and memory care communities and adult day and senior activity programs, The course certifies participants to lead their own powerful LEGO Serious Play sessions for their staffs, residents, partners, colleagues and families and provides all the tools necessary for success! Cost includes the LEGO Serious Play starter kit, course manual and other handouts and post-training support.
Collaboration LEGO®️-Themed Events

The Loretta Veney Inspires mission includes bringing joy and hope to those with dementia and their caregivers by having them build and share the stories of LEGO® models created using the LEGO® Serious Play® methodology.
Both Stories Love Music and Loretta Veney Inspires independently provide activities that reduce anxiety, depression and burnout in caregivers and senior citizens, and now in a special collaboration from both organizations, a special training event has been developed.
The Collaboration Event will provide:
1. Musical selections and strategies for managing behaviors of seniors with dementia and self-care for caregivers..
2. LEGO® building tasks that participants will complete in response to the musical selections played, benefiting both seniors and caregivers.
The collaborative sessions will allow participants to experience the power of
both listening to music and creating their own responses to it.
Through this collaboration participants will leave with double tools for
avoiding burnout from just one event.

Each participant builds their own 3-D LEGO® model using specially selected LEGO® bricks in response to tasks and questions posed by Loretta (a trained LEGO Serious Play facilitator). LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is an excellent tool for team building, goal and strategy development, creating a shared mindset, understanding each other’s point of view and finding solutions to shared challenges through creative thinking.
